Side Project — Time Travel Mobile App
I wanted to push myself out of my element a bit, and do a little mobile side project! It was fun to challenge myself in a new-ish medium, keeping common mobile interactions in mind as I was designing this experience.
I decided to create a fictional mobile app around time travel, as if it were as easy as ordering an Uber. I tasked myself to create a start trip, an ‘in-“flight”, and an arrival confirmation screen.
Kicking off
Start Trip
After gathering my thoughts and inspiration, I went right into sketching and creating these 3 experiences. I started with creating “Start Trip” since I felt this was the most important out of the three. The user must be able to quickly and easily schedule their time travel.
I broke the “Start Trip” experience down into 4 main parts being— When, where, departure/who is going, and payment.
In-Flight
Time travel can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 2.5 minutes. Users can see/use the app during this time, so providing some type of status experience to let them know where they are at is necessary. I chose to incorporate a map view of where they are going, weather, things to do, reviews, and of course a time estimate of when they will arrive at their destination.
Arrival Confirmation
And lastly I designed the “arrival confirmation” screen, that lets the users know if their trip went well or not. And allow them to rate their personal experience and share what can be improved.
